Dance your way to fitness with Zumba: Meet Dionina De Guzman Zumba Instructor

How did you get into Zumba?


I faced challenges shedding post-pregnancy weight and experimented with various forms of exercise including bootcamp, CrossFit, boxing, swimming, running, hiking, yoga, and Zumba. Given my love for music and dance, Zumba quickly became my passion.

How do you motivate yourself and others to keep up with a fitness routine?


I motivate myself and others by  curating an environment for fitness that is both positive and energetic  during our classes. I make sure that it’s a workout that they would look forward and stick to. I incorporate a variety of music and dance styles into our routine to keep things fun and engaging. I also constantly remind my students of the benefits of staying active and encourage them to set goals for themselves.


How would you encourage someone to try Zumba if theyve never tried it before?


Zumba is an exercise in disguise. It’s a perfect choice for anyone who’s looking to add some excitement in their workout regimen. It's suitable for all fitness levels and ages. It’s so easy to follow yet hard to stop.

I would also point out the positive and welcoming community aspect of Zumba classes, where participants can feel supported and encouraged to keep moving and have a good time. Lastly I could modify movements or provide extra support for beginners to help them feel more comfortable and confident in trying something new.


What is the most challenging thing about Zumba?


Students need to keep up with the fast, highly energetic pace of the classes so it requires a lot of mental and physical stamina. Additionally, new students may encounter challenges with achieving coordinated movement, which tends to improve over time with consistent practice.



What is the most beneficial thing about Zumba?


Zumba offers a fun and engaging way to stay healthy and active. It provides a full-body workout helping participants to burn calories, tone muscles, and improve cardiovascular health. The lively music and group atmosphere of the classes can boost mood and reduce stress levels.


What is your go to outfit for Zumba?


Zumba has their own clothing brand which I frequently use but I usually select outfits that blend style, comfort, and quality. I have several pieces from FLOW with ME which stand out as favorites, providing necessary support, figure-flattering design, stylish appeal, and exceptional comfort. These outfits are crafted from high-quality materials, retain their shape, and are sustainable!


Do you have any role models that inspired your journey?


One influential figure in my fitness journey is Beto Perez, the Zumba founder. Having met him at the Zumba Convention last year, I was inspired by his transformation from a fitness instructor to a global fitness icon. His success demonstrates how passion, dedication, and persistence can lead to a flourishing career.
